Spindle Lock Washer?

I took this washer off a while back while removing my front rotors on my 1970 442 Pace Car and remember that it had plenty of grease on it and that it was behind the lock nut. As I started to reassemble this afternoon, it doesn't look like it really fits in there nor do I see a function for it.

Is this a correct part for my car or did somebody add this along the way?

I don't see any of the tabs bent and I don't see this in any suppliers catalogs on front brake parts.

A picture may help, does it look like this? It's a thrust washer that goes behind the nut.

Never saw one of these (locks) on front spindle nut, did the spindle nut have a cotter pin in it was it a flat nut without slots?

Yes, it has the standard cotter pin hole thru the nut which presses against the thrust washer.
I think somebody in the past who did some work on these brakes must have added it by mistake.

That's not a lock washer. It's the remains of the anti-static contact that was pressed inside the dust cap. The six triangular "teeth" are supposed to hold the contact inside the dust cap. Yours is missing the spiral part that contacts the tip of the spindle. Note the unbroken one in this photo.

Thanks Joe!
I never saw one before and couldn't figure out its purpose.

Thy were on my 72 when I redid the front end. One was perfect as in joes pic, the other was like yours. They didn't go back in. IIRC they are described in the CSM.
