Speedometer Cable Routing Blues

Since I just melted the casing on my brand new speedometer cable against the exhaust what is the proper routing for the speedometer cable under a 70 442.?

Also, once inside what’s is the path it takes inside up behind the dash? I had it coming up the left side of the steering column as you looking at the steering wheel but this seems to put is in a bind where it goes into the speedometer.

Any pics will help.

Thanks

The cable routing should be in the PIM.

Do you have a 4-speed or automatic? 4-speed goes to the right of the column and up between the supports to the back of the speedo. When going through the firewall, it takes a turn towards the trans and is held against the firewall with a clip, then up over the trans and around to the passenger side to connect. The whole thing after the clip on the firewall should be encased in a thick rubber sleeve so it won't melt on anything.
