speedo cable install help

speedo cable install help

Am hoping to have time to change out my speedometer cable on my 69 442 this weekend. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove and re-install cable to the speedometer without removing from the dash? Looking for the easiest method. The other end goes to the passenger side of my muncie m-20. easy to get to.

I need to remove my speedo and was told that can be done without removing the dash. If that can be done you can certainly change the cable out.

On a '69, there is a spring clip that you have to press to release, then pull the cable at the same time, from the speedo head...on a '68 it has a threaded ring that screws onto the speedo...

As stated, there is no need to remove the dash - "just" reach up and unclip the cable from the back of the speedo (easier if you have 9" long fingers and are triple-jointed).

You might be able to slide the new cable in completely from the transmission end, provided that the reason for the replacement is not a broken cable.

Eric...I believe that you have to slide the inner drive cable from the speedo end because of the flange that holds the cable from sliding down into the tranny...
