Spectra Premium or Tanks Inc.?

I am going to replace my tank in our 1967 442 and going to buy one thru ebay.

The Spectra tank is $166 and free ship.

The Tanks Inc. has the same number and is $150 and free ship and they say they make theirs. ?

Never had dealings with Tanks Inc. Bought Spectra tanks before and like them.

Any suggestions??

Mike

If you've bought Spectra before I suggest going back to them. I like using the same companies or suppliers over and over again.

I got a spectra through Rock Auto and happy with it, but if had known about these before I would have gotten one.

I had good experience with Tanks Inc. Call them and talk to Georgia. She is a sweetheart and they have great customer service. It probably comes down to price. Fusick is supposed to start carring tank but I don't know if they have them yet.

I don't like to give money away but for $16 dollars you know that you are getting the real deal.

Mike, I don't know if it makes any difference, but the Tanks Inc. tanks seem to require a different fuel pump module (at least that's what their web page says). The Spectra Premium tank is made in Canada and distributed through the USA for almost 1/2 of what it costs in Canada. Their tanks use the conventional GM fuel sender and securing hardware. I know you prefer to have OEM whenever practical. I bought a Spectra GM34R for my 72 and its almost a direct copy of the OEM. Only thing different is the venting in the fuel neck. I kept the OEM tank in case I needed to transfer the filler neck. If you've had good experience before with Spectra I suggest staying with them.

From a quick web search on this topic:

Spectra Premium uses US Steel's 'niterne' material (cold rolled steel) Painting the Spectra Premium fuel tanks isn't required or even recommended. If you wish to paint one of these tanks, you'll need to clean it very carefully to remove an oily film, and then scuff it all over. For best adhesion you really should chemically etch the tank before painting.

Thanks All.

I am going with the Spectra tank GM37G.

I was confused with the same part number as the Spectra's.

For the 16 bucks I will go what I feel good with.

Thanks, Mike

Did you find the build sheet in your car or on top of the old tank? Just curious.

I found a 99% perfect build sheet on my 70 442 built in Fremont.

Customer order, and the dealership is still in business.

Any chance you could post a pic of it? That sounds like a great find and not too often we hear that a near perfect sheet is found.

I do not want to hijack this thread, but I recently purchased a new gas tank from InlineTube. It was dropped shipped from the supplier. I suspect it is a Spectra. The part number is OGM37G. Once installed I immediately noticed the neck with cap barely sticks out past the back of the rear frame. Unfortunately, of the thousands of pictures I took during tear down, not one is of this area. Now I am a bit nervous. The old rusted out tank was mistakenly trashed by someone other than me. So I have nothing to compare to.

I measured the new neck. From the welded/soldered joint it is right at 7" long. How does this match up to any of you out there? This is for my 67 442.
