Some W Machine Nostalgia

I picked up this embroidered W-Machine patch many years ago. It’s an authentic Dr Oldsmobile's W-Machine patch that I believe was only available at your local Oldsmobile Dealership Parts Department counter circa 1970.

Jacket patches were the popular at that time. Color Decals have since been fashioned after this patch.

Pretty cool.

Neat that you still have that. I love W-machines as much as anybody but I always thought (even back in the day) that the Dr Olds dude was a little corny. 70's marketing was a different animal for sure. Pop culture with flower children everywhere made us gravitate to some strange things I guess.

Yeah, I've never been a big fan of the Dr Oldsmobile thing or the Elephant Ernie and all that, but the patch is very cool and pretty rare, I think.

The Escape Machine was good and then there was Linda Vaughn, well....

Yeah. it was a goofy time in advertising for sure. Remember Max Factor and the "Keep on Truckin" stuff, lots of cartoons- Ed Roth, Mopar Rapid Transit System, etc. I was 14 in 1970 and loved it!

Straying off topic a bit, but to touch on the "Keep on Truckin'" portion, my mother-in-law started calling a guy in her neighborhood the "Keep on Truckin' Dude". It took me a couple of minutes to realize she was referring to one of the addicts that (unfortunately) lives in her neighborhood, and when he's wasted, leans waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back while trying to stumble down the street.
