should it be like this?

So cleaned out the trunk as earlier stated in my other post. Came across the sides of the trunk floor. Am I missing metal, or a piece that just bolts in or what!!?! I don't think there should be that much free space.

Took a couple pics best I could. One side with the new quarter, other with the cancer portion removed. Let me know what you think.

He didn't say he POSTED the photos. He just said he TOOK a couple, and then he's asking what we think of this. Others will undoubtedly have their own opinions, but, personally, I think it's great that he can work a camera.

I think some of that cancer might have gotten into your camera.

Still no photos, but if you're talking about the gap between the sides of the trunk floor and the inside of the quarter panels, that's normal.

No.

Gas should be $1.20 a gallon, and it should not have any ethanol in it.

I should weight 20 lbs less than I do and have fewer gray hairs.

But, alas, we have no control over these things.

You're right. My wife says I look fine the way I am. I don't need to lose any weight.

Naah. I keep those all over my cars, not just in one place. .

So, you've posted one shot of the inside of a trunk with a new quarter installed (or at least held in place), and one with a nice view of the road through the rust.

What is the question again?

Those two shots are normal pictures of the trunk under those conditions.

That is normal. My Ninety Eight has black cardboard walls to cover up the inside quarter panels.

Other than there is a hole were the side marker lite should be it looks about right.
You must be used to those modern cars were they are small, they care about weight, and gas mileage. Back in the 70"s make em big, make em heavy with lot's room.

I just wasn't sure if it was trim that covered the gap. And the "hole" that shows the ground is the cancer removed from the pass quarter. I'll trim it to cover once all repaired thanks

Most of our "heavy" older cars are actually lighter than the smaller, "light" new cars.

OK, one more time. The car in question is an A-body. There was NEVER any trim, cardboard or otherwise. There is a trunk dropoff panel that runs down vertically from the edge of the trunk floor to the bottom of the quarter panel to close the hole to the outside, but there is NO filler panel (metal or cardboard trim) to bridge the gap between the trunk floor and the inside of the quarter panel. That's just the way these cars were built. Stop worrying about it.

Sorry, Eric, but I'm not buying that. I'll believe 3200 lbs for a 1978 Cutlass, but not a 77. After all, the 1970 442 curb weight was about 3700 lbs (which is why the W-30 was rated at "370" HP that year - nudge, nudge, wink, wink).

Maybe so - the source for that was a web site, and not something as reliable as the SPECS book.
As we all know - Garbage in = Garbage out.

Eric, here's another web site that suggests Joe is closer to the mark at 3700. I guess it just depends on whose info to believe? I get the GIGO concept. Just don't have any OEM docs to substantiate stats.

3,690 from that site sounds better than 3,278.

Either way, it makes my point .

Keep in mind also that new cars contain an extra several hundred pounds of safety, entertainment, and electrical BS that old cars did not have, not to mention the cutsie trim pieces (like quarter fill panels inthe trunk) that people expect nowdays in even the cheapest of cars...
