Shipping Nightmare

Hi All
Over the years I've shipped several doors, fenders, deck lids and more through Greyhound bus lines. Never had a problem and for large packages it was more cost effective than other shippers. Recently I sold a pair of 1964 Cutlass doors & core support to a fellow member here. Shipped in two packages, a door & core support in one and the other package just a door. It took about 10 days for the door/core support package to go from Medford Oregon to Canton Ohio. But the second package with a single door took 47 days It sat for a week in L.A., then it sat for another week in Las Vegas. Who knows where it spent the rest of the time...

So just a heads up, if your shipping Greyhound and going for the "space as available" shipping method, it might take a really really long time to get there!

They're looking at closing a lot of their terminals around here, including the one in my small town. I wonder if this is a sign of things to come with their service.

Were you able to track it? How did you find out how long it spent in each town? Sounds like i t might have been too heavy for the person who was supposed to move it and it just got put aside and forgotten about. If you were able to track it then you could have chased it but I didn’t think you could track Greyhound packages.

Sometimes this stuff goes so sideways you want to pull your hair out. Ages ago I bought a Trans Am from a guy in Boston. He never had it titled in his name. Last title was New Hampshire. It took forever to get the paperwork sorted out. We finally get it straightened out & the knucklehead mails the docs certified but not priority or overnight. USPS can't track certified. It took 21 days from Boston to NY. I could have walked there & got it faster.

Greyhound does have tracking... but its not updated like USPS or FedEx does. Both the buyer and I made several phone calls to the Greyhound shipping number. They were able to actually call bus stations and ask if this package was there.

Wow, that's a long time just for a letter! I'm guessing it was people not wanting to mess with a large box, that it got put in the back room and ignored. But I've never had problems with them before. I've shipped large packages to the East coast and had them make it in a week. Oh well, at least it wasn't lost forever!

IDK if it soured me on the whole thing of if it was an omen but I was never happy with the car. I kept it less than two years.

To ship one door, and this is a post door so its a larger package than a hardtop. The glass/regulators were removed to save on weight. It cost $93.93 to ship from Medford Oregon to Canton OH through Greyhound.

Your fortunate that it made it. I just shipped a complete posi rear end from Ohio to Florida. I sold it in the morning, shipper picked it up at 4:30 pm the same day. No palletizing, just laid in his van with the picker. Two days later it was delivered at 9am. Price $250. He used U Ship it.
