Shipping a motor
Stopped by Fastenal to check on shipping a BBO from the gulf coast to Canton Ohio. Told them it was approximately 700 lbs. and would be on a standard pallet with no fluids. About had a heart attack! $90.00 and it would be insured for $3500. Darn that's cheap.

Yup. Fastenal is the best kept secret in the auto hobby.

I sure did, 4 speed, tri-power car. Porkchop (Mike Richards) down in Morris, Alabama helped me out with that car. It was a great one. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Seems like a lifetime ago.

I have found that with fastenal you have to get the consignees, (receivers) Name Address and phone number submit it to fastenal via email and they will give you the written quote. Not all stores have forklifts so some stores will not handle the heavy items. I have shipped several engines with them and I drain them, put them on a pallet and block it and strap it down then shrink wrap it and I get bags from a ton of wood pellets and put it on the engine and band it one again. This is kind of over kill but, makes sure nothing gets into the engine. If you are shipping body parts they require you crate the parts. That can be time consuming but saves the part from damage.
Shipments are required to be picked up at the fastenal store they designate due to the forklift issue. Across country takes a couple of weeks some times. But is way cheaper than going with an LTL (less than a full Load) carrier.
I have had good service with them.
