Selling out of state

Anybody do that? So far nobody has bucked up to buy my 49 GMC.
This guy from Nevada wants me to call him back tonight after work.
Calls don't cost anything. I figure w/o cash in my hand the panel stays.
I'll also tell him ask questions now, ask for pictures. No refunds !
Probably just talk anyway.

Anyone sell out of state and it went well?

If they show up with cash, I don't care if they came from Mars.

If they show up with anything else, they'll just go back emptyhanded.

several times. the biggest thing is to see what there state requires. i delivered my 91 442 to a guy in PA. my dad and i were both on the title but he did not go with me. he signed it before i left but when i got there i found out that the title had to be notarized. in indiana you don't have to do that. they wanted me ho have my dad come all the way to PA from IN for him to sign it. we managed to get it all figured out without to much trouble in the end but i should have called there BMV before i left. if you are the seller and they are coming to you, just let them figure out what they need to do. after you have the money it is there problem.

Post Out of State

I have bought and sold a few cars out of state.
Selling:
I just represent my stuff as it truly is and try to point out any weakness that some one might find during my conversations with someone who is interested. That way there are no surprises.
Have the title ready with all of the information correct and any signatures needed signed and notorized. When people see better than they expect they leave happy.

I sold my Hurst/Olds out of state off of EBAY as well as a Road Runner. Transactions went very smoothly and both buyers were very happy.

I only take cash, I would be very careful with any other form of payment, I would make sure of it before anything ever left my possession.

When buying:
When I buy cars from out of state I check both states transfer requirements. In some states license plates stay with the person not the car. Hard to drive cross country with out a plate. That is why I check.

Always make copies of the paperwork on a transfer so you can show the sale if your DMV or tax people come looking for you or money on a car you sold. I have had titles from cars that I sold to people out of state take 3 years before they made it back to my state. Having proof of the sale saved me headache with the Property Tax *****.

It can be a very rewarding sale or purchase but do your homework on either side.

Brian

Seems like I only buy out of state these days. I bring Franklins and my dolly. I can always go back home if it isn't as advertised. I've talked down the selling price a couple hundred when I've arrived due to things they didn't mention, but I've always brought the vehicle home with me.

Had an out of country guy ask me questions today. France!
I still hope for a local buyer, talked with a few local guys about trades.
Could really go for some concrete work.(2 deals pending) To bad the upholstery guy fell through. Nobody has yet to say "yes" and shake my hand.
It stays till work/trade is done or I've got greenbacks.
Thanks for all the reply's

Yes fake checks are out there but bank checks can usually be verified. Not sure about other kinds...
No way i would travel with over 10k in cash (thugs here can sniff it out...)

I bought Lady with a check from my bank. After our lengthy test drive, we drove over to his bank, the clerk contacted my bank to verify my check was real and the funds and account were valid, he cashed it, gave me the keys, and we lived happily ever after!

If you accept cash, get one of those cheapie UV LED lights to make sure the bills are most likely to be real.

Now days, it is hard to trust those you don't know - sad...

I've sold an Olds , and a Mopar out of state..both went way up North. Get a cashiers/bank check and hold it till it clears. have the buyer arrange the shipping. Not a big deal.
