Selling a car to someone in Europe??

Has anyone sold their car to a buyer located abroad and is so how was the selling experience? What type of payment did you take? what should I be concerned about? Thanks

That it is actually a scam!

When I sold my 64 98 I supposedley sold it to a European guy. I showed it to two guys. One of the guys was a TX good ole boy (pretty common for around here). The second guy spoke Dutch and definitely seemed European to me (I worked in Germany back in 2001). I guess the guy from TX was helping his friend out and was going to trailer my car down to the Gulf of Mexico. The Dutch guy kept talking on his phone with a friend overseas in Dutch. Truthfully, the guy could have been from the Bronx for all I know but they gave me a decent price. Plus they paid cash.

Ultimately, if some guy from Europe wants to buy your car you should tell him that he is responsible for shipping, etc. Plus, he should hire someone to come pick up the car and pay you cash or a bank check that you can cash before the truck driver leaves.

I was amazed when I put my 1988 F250 on CL how many foreigners were interested. All scams!! I know you're selling on ebay but you never know!

I sold a '78 Chevy van to someone in Europe on eBay. It was a pretty good experience. I can't remember if I had to deal with a broker or not, but I recall I had to do very little.

Its pretty easy to tell the scams for the real deals. Cash in person or wire transfer is the only way to go. I know several people who have solds cars to go over seas. I also know plenty of attempeted scam attempts but all were very easy to see through if you have 1/2 a head on your shoulders.

Sold a corvair to a guy in Sweden. Had him wire the money to my bank account and he arranged for a shipper to pick up the car. I asked my bank before hand if it was ok to give someone my account number and they said for wireing purposes it would not be a problem. All went smooth....Stay away from checks!
