anyone use one of these on a cutlass convertible. My concern is body flex

 

How is body flex with this lift any different than body flex with a two-post lift that contacts the frame in the same places? The answer is, it isn't. For that matter, simply using a floor jack and stands under those points is also exactly the same.

Yes, the body will flex. They all do, even Sport Coupes. These cars are not rigid by any stretch of the imagination.

 

The reason I ask is when I lifted the car by the cross member under the motor and put jack stands under it just behind the front wheels and then lowered the jack, the car made some loud noises. Just want to be sure I don't damage something using this type of lift. The loud noises may be normal. Don't know, never owned a convertible before

 

Exactly my point. This scissor lift loads the car no differently than those jackstands did. The car will flex. That's life.

 

I can't fit a 4 post in my space so the sizzor lift will have to do. Glad to hear it will work. Insert earplugs and push the up button!

I've been looking at one of those, given the space constraints in my shop. Specifically, I'm interested in how easy it is to bolt it down then remove it when not needed. Also, how high does it go, and do you really use it to work under the car. Thanks.

 

I was limited because of my garage but I'll tell you it was a great investment. It raises the car about 40".

I have a nice stool on casters and roll around underneath it. I've fone engine,trany and reared work with ease. Shop around I bought mine last year from Costco for $2100.

Used a hammer drill to install it and can easily be removed. Just make sure your floor is minimum 4" thick.

 

I was thinking about these Max Jacks for my garage when its done.
The nicer the work space the more fun the hobby is.
They are not a must have, I done frame offs with nothing more than jack stands and a jack and a home made body cart.

What I like about the Max jack is low ceiling application,price, range of unobstructed space to work under the car with out the lift interfering.

From one who owns a 2-post asymmetric Mohawk, this looks interesting. There does seem to be a nearly universal wish that the lifting range was a couple of inches higher.

How is it working in a sitting position, I wonder? I can envision not being able to get sufficient grip to loosen a really tight fastener because the stool keeps rolling/moving?

 

If your garage isn't big or tall enough for a full size lift this is a no brainer,unless you don't mind laying on a creeper under a car on jack stands.

Makes every trany,engine,rear end swap a whole lot easier as well as brake jobs!

 

I can't see that as a problem,as I have worked off my back on a creeper and never had a problem with TQ/tightening bolts/nuts.
If one has the money and is willing to mount it correctly X2 no brainier.

If you add the cost of a high lift jack and tall jack stands it looks even better price wise.
