?'s about restoring a Hurst dual gate shifter/with pics

Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

Where can I find replacement wear protectors? the plastic or rubber that is placed on the body of the shifter to keep from wearing the side of the chrome shift handle while in the neutral or drive position. At one time I thought I seen these at one of the repro parts house's,but cannot find them now.

Is this an original shifter ball? anyway to restore it? as you can see in the pics,it's pitted and scratched and almost looking like brown rust in the pits, has a small crack in the bottom.

I would like to have the shifter handle rechromed. What is the best way to remove and reinstall the rivets holding the handle to the slide mechanism?

I would try Hurstshifters.com I here they still rebuild them to like new condition. That might be the best and most economical when its all said and done?

BTW, additional related question to anyone,...
Did these shifters originally have a way / skirt / 'brush' to keep stuff from falling down through the gate slot?
I have this shifter on my '70 455 VC and with the dual gate open, a Cheeto will fall through and .....
Thanks

I would try and contact Brian Trick...he seems to be 'THE MAN' when it comes to console restorations...and many other mechanical and restoration type projects it seems. I believe that he frequents this board so maybe you'll hear from him. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info to all.

I didn't know Hurst offered a rebuiling service,I'm going to call on monday and get all the details of the work they will perform.
I see they will rechrome the stick for $75.
The shifter I have works fine, just needs a cosmetic restoration.

thanks
