Rt. 66 Mother Road Festival, Springfield, IL 9-23-23

Drove my H/O up to my friends' place, then convoyed with them Sat morning to Springfield, IL for the Route 66 Mother Road Festival. They block off 6x6 city blocks around the old capitol and pack them in. Official count was 1038 cars. Although someone with their 69 H/O was there, we never saw it, so our H/Os were it for that model. Decent amount of Oldsmobiles, pictures included, along with other stuff I thought interesting. Stood on top of a parking garage and watched a 15 car burnout competition.

Sounds like a great day. Some unique cars. A Mustang hard-top convertible? Never knew they made one.

From what I heard, the guy that did the Galaxie Skyliner developed this. It is 100% manual. Ford would not let him do it. He quit sometime later and made kits for Mustangs with the roofs, decklids, and all parts. You had to cut some serious sheetmetal on your Mustang to fit the kit, it was obviously not bolt on. He made 30 or so kits; three surviving cars are known.
