Rocker Arm In Up Position with No Pressure on Pushrod

I am having a problem with my rocker setup. I have an olds 350, #5 Heads, and I am using the Comp Cams roller tip kit. It seems that I am having an issue where I have tension on the pushrod all the way through the stroke except for a split second when the valve begins to close. The pushrod loses contact with the rocker yet the rocker is still in the up position. I don't understand how that is possible. The springs should keep the pressure on the valve on the way down. If you keep turning it eventually comes down, but will do the same thing on the next cycle. Please have a look at the video, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Evidently the valve is siezed in the guide at the half open position.

Correct procedure at this point is to remove the head and inspect everything. Might be a bent valve, or just too tight in the guide.

Can you move the rocker when its in the 'loose' position ? (i.e. Does the rocker move freely ?). If so, what Octania said...

I agree, the valve is stuck and the head has to come back off.

I cant move the rocker when it is in the loose position... Thing is that it will come down by itself its just at that particular point it allows that separation.. I would think that the valve would never move from that position if it were truly stuck.. I guess either way the head has to come off.

well, start by taking that cylinder's rockers off, inspect the rockers for witness marks of binding or interference. Using a suitable pry tool or whatnot, check the operation of the valve/spring w/o the rocker in place. Should pinpoint the problem quickly.

Bent valve? Any way you look at it it's stuck in the guide. Broken spring can do that also but the spring doesn't appear to be at coil bind.

And that's one of the problems when an OP does not get back and post what the fix was. Newbies will reopen a thread.

Looks to me like the rocker is binding on the stud.

I'm hoping he found the problem since the original post is like a year and a half old?
