Road trip and I'm leaving the Old Lady at home

Planning on doing the Oregon North coast road trip thing again starting this Tuesday but I haven't got the Mistress running as well as I would like so she will have to stay at home. I'm still having problems with the dieseling on shut off and a sometime vapor lock issue on startup when the engine is hot. All this could go away when I get the new rebuilt vacuum advance back from Fusick and then a complete tune up but I still would like to put a thousand miles or so closer to home before we venture out of state on a extended trip.

The agenda is pretty open this time, wife said something about maybe salmon fishing and doing some lighthouse viewing you never know sometimes it's better to just wing it and just stop whenever something catches your eye. Plus it will give us a chance to give the wifes (new to us) car a workout this will be the first trip in it since we bought it. I'll take some pictures but will probably post them after we get back as we won't have as much time on this trip as we did during last Mays vacation. See you soon...Lost in the fifties ...Tedd

Sorry to hear this. We hope it's nothing serious. You are taking the car, though?

I dunno - I find trips without the Old Lady invigorating. So long as I'm in the old car, anyway...

It is better to go lighthouse viewing at night when the lights are on! Makes it easier to find them also.

Oregon coast is very scenic. I'm waiting for pictures. Don't forget about the Devils Punchbowl, Haystack rock, Devils Throat and Thor's Well. Lots of good whale watching too!

I'm ready to go back.

You're just gonna have to ship that relic to the east coast - you don't want to be bothered with her anymore!

Good link to many scenic coastal areas. Probably already have your trip plotted out.

Sorry to hear your not taking the car. Fwiw, those sound like insignificant issues that may cure themselves with a small timing adjustment, a good drive, and some fuel treatment. None the less enjoy your trip!

Hard to do a timing adjustment when the vacuum advance is toast. I'm sure I could make the trip the way it is now but its pretty embarrassing having to wait for the car to quit dieseling for 15- 20 seconds while a crowd gathers around. Also I'm a little apprehensive about the wiring repair and new generator till I get a few more miles on it, I don't want any surprises while out of town.

There will be other trips in the future that the Mistress will be taking with us. We have thought about a Grand Canyon trip sometime down the road....Tedd

Yes the last trip was slightly problematic and I understand your apprehension.

Dieseling

If you suffer from dieseling, just leave the vehicle in gear and then shut it off...no dieseling...
