Road trip??

Hi All,

I have a rare opportunity to take a road trip to see my beloved Yankees take on the Red Sox at Fenway park tomorrow. I say rare because you married guys know what I mean when you are permitted to take off by yourself on a weekend for a baseball trip!

Long story short, one of my best friends lives there and I am contemplating taking my 69 Cutlass on the road to get there. I live on Long Island and its about a 4 hour trip each way with the forecast calling for temps anywhere from 90-100

Before I decide I wanted to check here to see if there's anything I need to check out first on the car (including my sanity since I have no AC). After seeing the other thread about the Cutlass that went across country, this seems like nothing but I don't want to take the car if there is serious risk of overheating etc. Fwiw, the car runs perfectly right now and made the trip from Hartford to Long Island when I bought it and did fine after not being used very much at all.

So what do you think? Bring the car to Fenway pahhk??

Thanks,
Bill

My opinion? Drive there and leave the car at your friend's place and let him drive you both to Fenway. Older cars attract attention and sometimes it's not the kind you want. You don't need to be worrying how things are going in the parking lot. Have fun.

Actually I probably would not bring it to the park, leaving it in my friend's driveway like you said. Just want to make sure I don't break down halfway up on Rt 95!

I would make sure its secure. Redsox fans can be such ******, especially when the yankees are kicking their asses. If you feel it is up to it give it a whirl. Check your beltsm hoses & fluids before you go.

I would take the usual assortment of hand tools and include a long screwdriver and hammer that you can use to open a stuck thermostat or better yet maybe an extra thermostat and gasket. If you have point you might take an extra uniset and feeler gage or dwell meter (16 thousandths or 30 degrees). Check you spare tire before you leave. Have fun.

Go ahead and take it to the game..and make sure you leave a yankee cap on the dash. We Red sox fans want to welcome you. And 'DROPTOPON' we may not like the yanks but we don't kill visitors who travel to our park!!

Non-mechanical suggestion would be to take less-traveled roads (less likely to get stuck in traffic). The Merritt parkway in CT parallels 95 and almost always traffic free (and is more scenic)...and it ends in northeastern CT up by Rt 84...which takes you northeast to I-90 which goes into Boston area.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally layIn leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:Two roads diverged in a wood,
and I--I took the one less traveled by
,And that has made all the difference.

Suggestion

I would repack the front wheel bearings if that had not been done in the last few years. If one were to burn up...it would do it on an extended trip like that.

We learned that the hard way in a '78 Firebird when the RF bearing overheated & took out the rotor, spindle, caliper & brake hose.
