RIP Walmart Battery - just shy of 9 years

My last Walmart Everstart battery lasted 9 years. This one just a couple of months shy of that. I Probably could have added a bit of water and charged this one back up to use for a while longer, but my luck is it'll be raining and cold out if the car dies next why chance it. I bought a group 24F, 750CCA, 3 year, for $153 drive out. I thought batteries were high 9 years ago at $111 out the door. I guess they are made by Johnson Controls still which is owned by Clarios now. Hopefully I can get 9-10 years out of this one too.

That's pretty good life for a battery. Did you keep on a tender when you had it in the garage?

Nope, just charged it if it was low. I try to drive it often, this year not so much.

nice! Good luck with the newer ones. I had Duralast Gold from A.Z. gave me 19.8 years of service.

I think that’s impossible in the southern heat.

I have a Walmart in mine and my wifes Cutlasses. I pulled mine out and pulled the Walmart sticker off one side and put it on the other then put a Delco sticker on the side that shows. Then I put a Delco topper on it so it looks like an original battery. You can't see the battery on my wifes 95 Cutlass because it is under the washer fluid reservoir. I read on here several years ago about the quality of Walmart batteries.

I seem to see about 7-8 years typically on most batteries.

If you do not keep it on a tender, 9 years is great.

Recently the alternator went bad in my wife's Seville & it wouldn't start.
When hooking up the charger, I saw the Aug '12 sticker on it & of all things, it's an Advanced Auto battery.
It still was working fine, but I figured it was time for one since I was already dealing with electrical issues.
Not sure if it's protected location under the rear seat helps with life, but 12 years is great.

I bet A.Z. refers to Auto Zone, as opposed to Arizona.

I get that which is why I made the southern heat comment. Pat is from MI.

Wow, the only battery I have got that life out of is the original battery in my Challenger, 7 years old and the Napa battery that came in my Cutlass, which is now 8 years old. I moved it to my Dakota, just added a battery disconnect on it, as it sits quite a bit. I tried an AGM with a 5 year warranty in my Cutlass and I have a battery disconnect. I know you guys in the extreme heat get shorter life. One Challenger owner in Arizona was impressed getting 6 years out of a battery, usually gets 4 years. We get potentially months of 85+F and potentially months of -40C/F. Freezing a battery is basically a death sentence, they are never the same afterwards.

Shortly after moving in the current house six years ago, we had a Generac 22kw whole house backup installed. It has come in quite handy as I was using a CPAP until about one year ago. Most recently, it provided us with power for more than 14 hours during an outage when hurricane Helene passed by. Early last month we heard it struggling to start during the bi-monthly test. I checked the battery and yes it was low and it was a Walmart 1 year guaranty size 26R. Almost 6 years in the brutal southern heat seemed pretty good to me so I replaced it with another from our local Walmart. I have been a long time fan of the Walmart automotive batteries.

Just recently (few months ago) swapped out an Optima red top that was from 7/2012. Got right at 12 years out of it.

I did keep it on a battery tender when not in use.

Yes indeed, having the battery away from the under hood heat really helps.
