RIP Morley Safer

Excellent TV reporter. His reports from Vietnam infuriated Lydon Johnson, and led to changing some of the public view of the war.
Just had a special hour on his career on 60 minutes, just retired at 84.

Great Canadian reporter, worked at the Telegram news paper in Toronto and for CTV television before going state side He reported the news the way it should be reported and was respected for it.
R.I.P Morley, you will be missed.

Just about the last of his breed. From a time of true journalistic professionalism, which I see sorely lacking in the modern crop of talking heads.

I totally agree, these past couple of years with the ''white cop kills black teen'' reporting to sensationalize an event and choose a victim/villain is getting old, not to mention politics where half the media pushes the 'D's and the other half pushes the 'R's to create a Superbowl like build-up

Don Henley's "Dirty Laundry" and Flash 'n' the Pan's "Media Man" were more prescient in the 80s than we realised...

I'll admit I don't trust current broadcast journalism much. My HS Journalism teacher is rolling in his grave at some of what passes for journalism now. He must have been doing something right with us- his Halifax County High School journalism classes won many Columbia University Scholastic Press Association Gold Key and Crown awards.

yeah, before you give ol' morley more praise....don't forget about one of his greatest accomplishments....defecating on an american flag....literally.

seems organizing a group of vietnam combat veterans to urinate on his grave might be a more appropriate activity. rumor is his picture may replace hanoi jane fonda's in the urinals at the nations vfw's across america.

Do you have any evidence that he defecated on a flag?

So I reckon evidence should be super-easy for him to present!

so are you asking for a "selfie" ? probably not available ---- chances are "if " there was one available the bleeding left still would not believe it......

i guess it becomes a different view if you lost a family member or some good friends over there. i see him no different than hanio jane ratting on a pow military officer.

keep voting for bernie

So what you're saying is that you are too lazy to present evidence on your libelous assertion (which is far from a "selfie") so you bring politics into this and I must automatically be a voter for the person you'd vote against?

It was a statement that Lyndon Johnson made to the then President of CBS with regard to a broadcast reported by Safer during the Vietnam War of the burning of Cam Ne. Google it. The statement was a play on words describing the broadcast towards the American military. With everything, there are 2 sides to every story. It was the first official conspiracy in the War.
