Rims interchange

My research so far states that the wheel studs were basically the same from the 60's-80's. But can anyone tell me if a set of aftermarket rims from a 1986 cutlass would fit on a 1972 cutlass? I would think they probably would.
Thanks!!!

They will. Same bolt pattern, 5x4.75, assuming you are talking a RWD '86 Cutlass.

Every single RWD Cutlass/F-85/442/Vista Cruiser from 1964-1988 used the same 5 x 4.75" bolt circle. Every single one used wheels with near zero offset. The only minor issue is that for 1964-69, cars with factory four wheel drum brakes USUALLY (but not always) came with wheels that will not clear disk brake calipers.

They will fit, but they are narrower. I had newer wheels on my car, and the tires were smaller, the car felt like it had tons of power, but it doesn't. ha.
