Repurposing a TCS switch, Will it work?

I am wanting to use a TCS solenoid for another purpose but need it to hold pressure instead of vacuum. It will need to hold 7 PSI at max pressure. I have tested it and does work but this would be a long term situation. as long as the engine is running the solenoid would be energized and when the engine is off it would turn off. Do any of the experts here see a problem I am overlooking?

Is there any other kind of 12 volt solenoid valve I could use in the same manor. The smaller the better and only needs one in and one out.

I am assuming (ya ya I know the rule of assumption) that you want to use it for boost control. I don't see why it wouldn't work. Seven psi isn't very much. If it does fail. Type in turbo boost control valve on eBay. There are several 2 port valves listed.

14 in-hg is just under 7 psi. If it can handle the vacuum, it *should* be okay under pressure.

EXACTLY!

The only issue is the pressure differential across the valve seat. Be sure to keep the high pressure on the side that would have seen atmospheric before.

I had thought about this and tested it both ways and it worked.

I did look up the boost control solenoids and some look like they may have potential.

My biggest concern is about the long term use of the coil. I assume they were not made for 100% duty cycle. When the engine is running I need it energized. I need it to block off pressure when the engine is running and allow the system to depressurize when the engine is turned off. Oldsmobile made one that is vacuum controlled but they have problems, I even had an NOS one go bad. A guy has the parts to rebuild them and they work but I even had one of those go bad. Wanting to replace it with a solenoid valve. I will hide the valve and make the factory one look like it is still in use.

I even thought about running a hose inside the car with a manual push button valve to relieve pressure when I turn off the car but having my wife remember to do this is not likely going to happen.

Can you turn the valve around so it runs the way you want it to?

If you use a three port valve it will vent when de energized. You just use the two ports that are connected when energized and it will vent out the third port when switched off. Just make some kind of filter on the vent side.

This is not for the turbo, it will only have one hose going to it. I just need the end of the hose shut off and then vented when not running. This is for venting pressure off the Turbo Rocket Fluid tank when the car is not running.

Hey Eric, look at the later solenoid that is on the quadrajet throttle linkage. Idle speed control either for ignition on or AC on, if I recall correctly. That thing could have 100% duty cycle.
