Replacing Speakes(75 Cutlass)

Hey guys!! I don't think this is the appropriate spot to ask this, but I figured you would all see this. So, the original speaks or maybe the radio(I don't know which) is finally taking a dump. The radio only plays on the loudest setting. Do you guys think it's the original radio that needs to be replaced or the speakers?

If it is the speakers, how do i get to replacing it, certain screws or spots?

If it's the radio, same question.

The car is a 1975 Olds Cutlass 4 door base model. Thank you all!!

The speakers can't cause the symptom you describe. There's something wrong with your radio. As for removing the radio, it's easier to do than to describe, so you're on your own.

Well lets try to describe this, First you need a good sawzall, a drink and some tunes playin' out the left side of the radio. When the music stops you've cut the power. You can start workin' on it at that point.

Ok, seriously, just pull the **** off from the radio, inside you will see some thin nuts on a long shaft. You'll need to get in with some needle nose pliers to get the nuts out. Its traumatic in tellin' ya. I had my wife hold onto my nuts until I got my shaft pushed all the way in.
Once the nuts and washers are out, push the radio back through the holes and drop it down on the floor, pull the wiring harness off and pull the antenna plug out then voila, its out.

Hope this helps,
Eric

There is likely a ground strap screwed to the back of the radio and the metal dash. You'll have to un-do that.

The hardest part is removing any ductwork, valence, etc. that's in the way.

Actually they can if they are really deteriorated.
