Renting an Oldsmobile, 88, 1955 in Houston

I want to find out how I can rent someone’s 1955 Oldsmobile 88. I can be a two door or four door. My father in law is 87 and his favorite car was the 1955 Oldsmobile four-door 88. He also had a two-door 1957 as well Oldsmobile 88.

I want to find out how I can rent for a day or for a weekend in Houston. My wife is one of seven children and my father-in-law worked very hard and has a lot to be thankful for. my mother-in-law is also still alive and she’s 90 years old.

My wife and I have 8 children and we live in Baltimore area. I want to have some celebration for him in his old age in Houston. Drive him in the car and take him to a luncheon with a celebration of all his woodworking and metal working as he was a machinist.

I come from an Oldsmobile family myself and our favorite family car was a 1964 Oldsmobile 98 convertible that was black with a black leather interior and every option. It was my fathers favorite car. So we have a love for Oldsmobiles.

We also had a 1973 custom cruiser wagon, top-of-the-line.

If anybody can help me to find out how I can rent and plan ahead for some future weekend how to rent a Oldsmobile 88 either a 1955 four-door or a 1957 two door or possibly a 1956 either variety.

They have so much character! The 1955-1957.

God bless you! I think it would really warm his heart!

Welcome Brent. Renting a classic Oldsmobile is a tall order, especially since you want to rent a specific year and model. Luckily, Houston, TX is probably one of the few cities in the U.S. where it might be possible.

Here's a car rental service that specializes in classic and exotic cars. It's not so much a location or business like Hertz rent-a-car, but a service like Uber or Lyft. There have been multiple threads on our website and the consensus seems to be that "carguys" shy away from signing up for this service with their pride & joy. Of course, that's not always the case. Good luck.

You might also contact the local OCA and see if there is a member that would be willing to help. I'm sure Houston has at least 1 active OCA chapter.

I've looked in to this some years back and there are many problems with your insurance carrier that will discourage getting through the red tape to make it work. Let alone have some drunk yahoo drive your car. My car has been in a number of wedding-receptions, almost all with me behind the wheel, dressed up in a top hat sometimes in tails it's a hoot, but not an Uber thing, no money crossed hands...Tedd

You MIGHT be able to get it to work with the owner driving.

Thats how I would do it, I drive, and all the family gets to sit back and enjoy the ride. Slip me a generous donation at the end of the day.
