I have a mid seventies 350 that looks like it's been open to the elements. I lost the desire to tear it down. Probably heading to the scrap yard.
curious if I should save anything?
Hate to toss something, someone could use.

The block number looks like 398555 2 which is a 1976-earlier solid main web block, so it and the crank should be better than the 77-up windowed version.

 

That looks like oil build up in the valley to me. None of the rust looks terminal at all, so it may not be as dead as you think. You might want to list it for sale for $150 and see if someone bites on it for a rebuild. You never know.
What is the number on the heads?

 

Yeah, I did have it on Craigslist Seattle for a long time and not a single bite. I suppose I should try again. 8 heads, I think.

 

Assuming you find no takers, the items to strip off that motor before scrapping it are the hard to find ones. A few that come to mind are:

Timing tab
Front cover if it's in good shape
Head bolts with accessory studs
Oil filter adapter
Oil fill tube if you can get it out without damaging it
Water pump bolts (especially the ones with studs on them)
Oil gallery plugs with orifice holes

 

Are you getting out of Oldsmobiles? Seeing how you lost the "desire" to tear it down why not relist it on Craigslist but at the first $50. Someone will buy it and it's more than you'll get for scrap plus it's gone. A good crankshaft with harmonic balancer is worth $50. Jmo

Yeah, I don't have an Olds currently and probably not in my best interest to get one. I have to be realistic with my lack of funds and energy. (recent illness put me on disability)
Currently (subject to change) my desire to minimize is stronger than my interest to collect.
Seriously considering moving to a warmer climate.

 

Where are you at, someone close to you might relieve you of your burden.

 

Puyallup is next door to Tacoma.

 

It went to a good home. The new owner is hoping to replace a 260 with it.
