Rebuilt Wiper Motor
Rebuilt Wiper Motor
I just got my wiper motor back from Restoration Service by Steve Hackel. It looked absolutely like a new motor again and it worked perfect. The turn around was fast (less than 3 weeks) and it cost $246 including shipping. I have to take my hat off to Steve, great job.
it looks great. My pump doesn't work and since the car came back form the shop the wipers don't work either, they said the "motor went bad while in the body shop" BS - one more thing they broke.
Anyway, please educate me, isn't there a repair kit for the pump but it doesn't match the original correct, does this guy mach the original and is there a reason you would spend 246 fixing an old one, are the replacement ones different - I assume so but haven't had a chance to compare.

I was luck/unlucky to buy a NOS unit off ebay for 150 correct date code and new white plastic parts too. Believe it or not the restoration shop took it apart and re-annodized part greased and re assembled. Good dead turned into a $300+ wiper motor. Date was even correct for my car an now I need a reproduction sticker. But it will look awsome and shows that NOS is not always ok on an overrestored car. Most people would have loved to have a NOS wiper motor for $150 and at first I was pretty excited to have found one.

You can't buy the part of the washer pump that's usually worn out (pump diaphram) and no electric parts are avalible for a lot of them.
That's why I had Steve do it, you get back the same motor you sent in and it fits and works first time.
Very nice, if that isn't a "mightaswells" starter nothing is.
Booster or hood hinges next?
Mine looks good, I have no idea if it or the washers work.
Confucius say,"Better to look good than to work good".
I still wouldn't mind having the optional shift lever controlled wiper washer though, I'd use that button to activate the nitrous.

It looks just like the diaphram in the top of a Holley secondary pot only a lot smaller, I had to turn the hose fitting around so I looked at it while it was apart.

I've got to change mine. My car came with a new aftermarket wiper motor, but it mounts on an adaptor plate a couple inches toward the driver's side, off center. Wiring harness was chopped up. I'm going to put the working wiper motor from my parts car in, but I have to also change the transmission assembly, as it also sits off center and won't work with the stock motor. Heavy sigh...At least I have all the parts. Already changed the harness, and I want it to all plug together and work properly. Next the switch will be different !!
