rear main seal leak

Has anyone out there been successful stopping a rear main seal leak,I have a 1941 6 cylinder. If you have, please tell me how you accomplished that feat; I've replaced the rope seal several times.

Rope seals are an art form. It is nec. to pack the rope in hard and when you think it is packed enough, pack somemore. Also you will trim only a slight amount off when done and soaked in oil before installation. When done properly on initial assembly it will make crank rotation tight. I tell you this taking for granted that you have bearing clearence within proper limits and that cylinder blow by is within acceptable limits
