Rear Main Lip Seal?

Rear Main Lip Seal?

hi everyone. thanks for all input so far. does anyone know which rearmain lip seal will replace the rope seal. one engine guy said 70 302. it was way big.. this morning another machine shop said 72. 429. napa had 1 in town here and i ran out with rear cap and it was way bigger circumference. does anyone know if a lip seal is available? possibly from another engine. paul ps. i messed up not mentioning displacement. its a 350 rocket

You didn't specify BBO or SBO, as they are different. The Ford 429/460 seal fits the BBO. The Ford 292 Y-block seal fits the SBO.

sorry guys its a 350. 69 4sp ragtop. ive had it for 40 years

thanks joe. i will try to get a seal in the morning. much appreciate it. been trying to get the bottom end together for a week now. paul

I think someone makes a gasket labeled just for the olds, maybe Mr Gasket. I know some manufacturer makes one for the first generation Olds as I used one last time I was in need....Tedd

Check with Joe Padavano he would know for sure but as I remember the 292 seal need to be pruned in order for it to fit. Something about a lip on the outside of the seal that the Ford has that is not needed for the Olds. Could be wrong on this its been 30 years since I was there....Tedd
