Real 4 speed ?

Can someone please tell me if this is a real 4 speed car? I have a chance to buy this 1970 442 convertible. It is a real 44 vin car with factory air. How rare would is this car? 455 in it not sure if # match. Thanks in advance.

2933 total production for the 442 convertible in 1970.

That is not a factory shifter and the trans tunnel does not look correct for a factory 4 speed. I think they made an aftermarket automatic shifter like that back in the day.

Was there that much of a gap between the brake and gas pedals on the 4 speeds? That seems large to me.

GTO pedal pads and chrome

67 ish shifter or 68-72 skylark shifter hard to tell..but looks like 442 to me on the handle..but if it says hurst its a really hard shifter to get

68 chevelle boot bezel laying on floor

looks like a 70ish camaro shift boot or maybe 68-72 chevelle no console

column is busted out

it looks like a pieced together car to me..but that pic is so bad its hard to tell details

Mark,
You beat me to the Pontiac pedals. It also had a power driver bucket seat & I see the safety sentinel speedo laying in the glove box. Also a power lock & window car. Probably had more options too.

and

is that a cruise button on the dash also by the wiper ?

I can barely see the top of the 4 on the 442 shifter ....

definetly 67 68 69 style shifter ....

and the optional 1973 bathroom lenoleum flooring pattern headliner....

cant believe you guys missed that option ... https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...ilies/wink.gif

time to do some rust repair ....

x3 on the GTO pedals ... I would like to see the bellcrank/zbar on that ....

nice catch on the speed minder .... that passenger side option is rare ...

Nicely done people. Is that bracket between the seats indicative of a console car?

Was a power bucket seat car. Seats in barn when barn caught fire Very rough car. Has old w27 rear cover. Not sure what to make of it running 455,fake 4 speed. Air convertible has w-30 badges. Sitting 20 years outside.

The car also has electric seat back releases. See relay on the drivers side floor, seems like a well optioned car.

A good indicator might be a close look at where the shifter comes through the tunnel. Does it look like the factory did it or is it a hack job?

From what I hear, the factory job WAS a hack job. A later installation might be neater.

Missing the shifter porch.

Handle is incorrect for a console car.

Pontiac pedals.

I've been fooled by the old transmission swap before myself. At least yours has the console bracket.

I'm impressed by you guys. I had no idea pedals, among other things, would be proprietary to another brand from GM.

I know you're kidding, but we all have our competencies to make this site what it is. I simply had no idea that this car would have been able to be picked apart so thoroughly like that.

But couldnt just the pedal pads be Pontiac? I remember when I would go to the wrecking yard I would grab any good pedal pads for my brake and clutch for my Vette, if they would fit. I think i had some on it years ago that may have been like these.

Look under dash above clutch pedal and see if their is a purple wire running to a switch attached to clutch pedal, If so I'd say its factory.

Don't talk to Diego about Pontiacs, he'll make you go join a club.

Factory hole for a 1970 442

The factory hacked the hole in the floor, then added the porch.
