So true Eric . Even if your car needed a motor and trans you could pick them up for 100 bucks . I spent 1400 on my first five Oldsmobiles between 1982 and 1989 . (Yeah I was awful hard on them back then )

Kinda like now, wife and kid both drive 2006 Mustangs. Her GT was bought new and I bought my kid his 6cyl coupe used. Big difference now is they don't cost $3-500.

On a side note, in the 80's I had a 68 Mustang GT fastback, a 57 Chevy vert, a 67 Impala SS, a 54 Ford p/up, and a 65 Lemans for DD's. They were driving projects.

Oh the memories! I was signed up to leave for the Navy in Feb 1976. I thought I could get by without a car and sold my 68 Impala for $500. (a lot of money!) After a while I decided I needed a car so I bought a 61 Olds 88 2 dr for $40.00 (talked the seller down from $50.00). It was absolutely dependable and went thru hell for 5-6 months until I took it to the salvage yard and got $35.00 for it. Pretty cheap transportation!!
