Rag joint rebuild, rubber disc

Has anyone used one of these to rebuild their rag joint? I would assume it would be ok? I have never rebuilt one before but should be easy enough. Just wondering what the best rubber ring would be? Cut one from an old tire maybe, lol.

I've put a few in, I usually bought a kit with new hardware because the ones I have worked on have rivets on 2 holes which I ground off the heads and knocked out. The kits come with bolts to replace the rivets.
I used to walk into any auto parts and buy the kit for around $10, I see some on ebay, like this one;

BTW, I have done a fair amount of business with this seller and have been well satisfied.

Good luck,

Well it looks like Auto Zone still has it. I looked there last night and came up empty but today it popped right up, and cheap! Like it used to be. $7.99 in stock at my local store, or so it says

The kits are easy to find but can hard to install. Does your joint have splined connectors on both ends? My 63 Starfire only had one on the steering box end, had to remove the steering column to install.

Lucky for me, I am pulling the car all the way apart. Yes, this one would be really bad to replace in the car.

I will preface that this was about 8 years ago but I was less than impressed with the dorman kit, and it didn't last long.
At the time my local advance auto parts stocked the Lares couplers, way better than the dorman kit.
I paid less than 20 for it then now part number 201 is 35.00.
