Talking R-12 to 134A conversion

I was wondering if somebody had done a thread already for this as i can not find. Please let me know if it can be done and if so which way is the best way. I want to do both of my Oldsmobiles.

Only info I can give is I did my 92 Custom Cruiser last year since the compressor was shot anyway. Got the new compressor and it was without oil. I found a retrofit kit at a swap and it contained the proper oil for 134A. I did not change all the 0 rings supplied with the kit. I added the proper amout of oil and pulled a vacuum. I did change the drier and charged the system. I would say the R12 gave cooler air but the 134A temp is acceptable. On 95 degree days it struggles but gets the job done. It has been a year and I have not had to add any refrigerant yet.

I did it on a 71 Elco. The compressor went out, so I figured at this point might as well change over. It worked, but not like the R12. They did not change my hoses at this time, and then they leaked. I read, I think that you should do this when you change over, but I did what th AC guy told me. The only thing, is sooner or later you will probably have to change over anyway. I live in Cal, and the last time I had to add some R12, the guy that worked on it said he had none, and could not get any. I had 4 cans, and he said, if you have some he could add it, but he had none.
