Question about Edelbrock intakes for a 66
Question about Edelbrock intakes for a 66
I did a search for this and found some stuff about the 68 to 72. However, nothing on my 66.
Question...I have a 455 in my 1966 442 and I am looking to put a Performer intake on it. According to their website, it states it will not fit under the hood for 64 to 67 applications. Has anyone every tried this and is there anything that can be done to utilize the stock hood? Can you shave the carb pad?

You'll need a drop base air cleaner, but those are easy and cheap. You may already have one.
I had a torker intake on the 455 in my 66 and it fit(barely) and the torker is taller than the performer!

It just clears. We had ours on for some time with the inner fenders out as we did some body work and such and could see it very clearly. I used the factory drop open element air cleaner base with a short air filter and a K&N filter top and no hood pad and got great air flow and no clearance issues.
If you need extra clearance and are NOT using an Ebrock carb, this will work on a Rochester or Holley.

I’ve had nothing but trouble with q jets, especially with the threads in the inlet getting stripped and leaking. Rebuilt or not, I’m just so sick of all the issues they have that I wanted to try something else, but apparently not much else will fit I guess
It must have to do with the early, smaller inlets. Yeah, 0 issues on many 76 and up carbs. There is a reason Cliff and others build the 76 and later carbs for high performance, Rochester improved them over the years, much of it was for reliability. The APT and larger primary castings were just a bonus. That is another thing I like about my 70 over my G body, the "S" provides a lot of room especially with a 350. The hood weighs a freaking ton compared to my 88 and no doubt much heavier than a flat 67 hood.
