Question about 1968-72 chrome remote mirrors
Hi All
Well, for several years I've been watching for these remote mirrors and when I came across one it went on the shelf. I thought they were all the same so I didn't take the time to put a note with them of what I pulled them from. Then a couple years ago I discovered the 1968-69 has a narrower base where it mounts to the door. At the widest point the 1968-69 are about 1.15 inches and 70-72 about 1.3 inches. So I thought there were two different ones. Until I was talking with Bluevista and went to dig one out for his Vista Cruiser. That's when I began to see some have taller pedestals or a different angle from the base to the mirror. That led to me looking more closely at the casting numbers. It turns out they each have two different numbers! So I'm posting them here hoping someone recognizes the application for a set of numbers. If you've got one of these in your spare parts and you know what it came off of please let me know!

Here's a couple photos of the mirrors and the differences I can see.

Would the difference be if one mirror was for an A Body and the other was for B/C body? Hey, I'm fishin too. Couldn't find these numbers in my GM parts manual.

Thanks for looking Allen. Yes, I'm sure some of these came off full sized cars. I feel a little silly not looking more closely at them long ago. But when I put them side by side I can tell there may be 3 or 4 or more different ones in the group. John

I just found out they were different in '68-'69. The parts guy at the show last summer said the angle is different on the earlier ones and one will hang out and the other will hit the glass if you get the year wrong but I have no idea how to tell just looking at it?
I'm just worried about geting stuff done for paint so no rush to find one, unless somebody has a nice fit-a-'71 remote mirror for sale?
I have to get a sheet metal support in for my right side mirror under the mounting holes as specified, don't want an oil canned or kinked door skin.
They sell them for 18 bucks , but I can drill a couple of holes in a piece of sheet metal and break a bend on each side of it for a lot cheaper than that.
There is a small hole in the repos for some reason, was there a rivet or something that held them so they wouldn't fall down inside the door?
Those mirror parts numbers would be a good reference, I sure can't tell what is what. If the mirror came right off a '71-72 no problem, but I would have to see the guy do it.

Cameo White, if you can come up with it without going to too much trouble would you let me know the casting numbers on the base? I'm hoping that I can key out some of the ones I have. John
