Qjet 7042250 starts then dies...help

Qjet 7042250 starts then immediately dies, if i step on the gas it will rev up but as soon a i let go it will die. This carb is on my 68 350. I am getting gas to the carb so i am stumped. This is my daily driver and i am switching over to this carb which is rebuilt. Thanks group help please lol😵

Have you adjusted the idle speed? Have you adjusted the a/f mixture screws to get a smooth idle? Are there any vacuum leaks?

^^x2^^ on the very simple check of the idle set screw located on the driver side carburetor accelerator linkage stop point. If the carburetor fires up, and the car stays running until you let off the gas, 1st suspicion would be the (low) idle set screw is backed off too far and not engaging.

I'm going to check it in the morning. i haven't turned the idle screw far enough maybe, I can't get the car to stay on, it starts then cuts right off, but if i step on the gas it will rev and stay on until i let off the gas

Qjets have a fast idle screw on the passenger side low. Screwing it in raises the cold idle speed, turn it in until the cold idle is around 1000 rpm to warm up the car with the choke mostly closed.

The regular idle is I the drivers side. I generally aim for about 900 rpm with the car in neutral.

It turns out a bolt broke, and created a vacuum leak, i drilled out the bolt got and got stronger ones. Car starts up now and is a new car. For some reason my car never liked that edelbrock carb. Thanks guys

Great news you found the problem and fixed it. I don't use anything less than Grade 5 bolts on anything.

Glad you found it. Was it a bolt to the carb?
