Rochester 750 CFM.....HELP
66 442. Upgraded Rochester to 750 CFM from Summit Racing last winter. Car sat over winter and just got back from soon to be ex wife so getting it ready to roll for summer. Had trouble starting (assuming because it sat for awhile) so i initially tried starting fluid and that didn't work. Had to resort to pouring a lil bit of gasoline down carb to get it going. Ran fine @ idle then let it sit for a few more days tried starting again and now black smoke with some gasoline coming out tailpipes and runs ruff as heck. Unable to keep it running. Ive been told that its running too rich. Does anyone know how to adjust the carb to prevent this? Documentation that does some sort of walk-though on the Net? Another note. Had the carb "professionally" installed last year and when i went to pick it up i had to work the gas and brakes at stop light just to keep it from shutting off. No problem with the stock carb before that (carb was from summit racing so im sure that its not the carb itself) ANY IDEAS???????????

Your float is stuck down with your needle valve stuck open.
You need to open up the carb and clean up the float bowl.
As far as the idle, you need to tune up the car, confirm timing and dwell settings, make sure your plugs, wires, cap, and rotor are good, and your vacuum lines are good (including vacuum modulator is it's an automatic trans, and PCV valve), and THEN reset the idle speed and mixture on your carb.

SDH, just a couple of Q's. Does you local gas pump " May contain up to 10% ethanol"?. If so, that might be your problem. Stabil makes a nice additive that neutralizes the oh so wonderful alchahol that eats accelerator pump diaphrams, floats, fuel lines and pumps.
But step one is to pull the carb apart and see why either your power valve/rod assembly is stuck, or the float sunk, or the needle ans seat has trash in it.
