Pushbutton air vents not working

A previous owner ripped out all the A/C tubing and parts from the heater box and blower motor forward on my 1968 Olds 98 convertible. I want to get the dash pushbuttons for the air vents and heater to work. It seems the vacuum diaphragms for those buttons are not working.
It looks like I will have to remove the dash to get at everything. Is that a big deal and can I fix the problem with the A/C stuff missing?
Thanks,
Ian

I've got a 1968 Olds 98 parts car with the dash apart. I can take some pictures for you if it would help. Does yours say Comfortron on the control panel? John

Hi John,
Thank you for your response to my inquiry concerning getting the heater and air vents working. My set up does not say Comfortron anywhere. I will try to send a picture, but it has separate push buttons for the air conditioning, heater and air vents.
A guy who worked on it thinks the 5 plug piece where the hoses all connect behind the dash has one tube broken off and will need replacing. If you can send photos that would be very helpful.
Ian
