Preservation advice

Hey everyone,

I have got such great advice from this forum in the past thanks in advance for your incites. I have a gorgeous 70 SX that I have been driving for the last 2 years. When I got it had <70k miles and didn't have a scratch, nearly all original and so much fun to drive. But I have put a good 60k miles on it, dinged up the paint and now it seems every other month it something new goes wrong. I have no complaints, I get to learn more about old cars, and sometimes get to buy new fun tools. Anyways my time is getting more and more scarce and I am running low on funds and need something more reliable that I don't have to worry about being so careful with, I am just going to get a commuter. My plan is to find somewhere out in the suburbs that is covered and put it on blocks and store it for about 3 or 4 years until I can give it the attention it deserves.

Here is what worries me though. There have developed a few small areas with rust, inside the door hinge where the door meets the frame, and I have already had to get a new piece welded on because it got all rusty under the rear window, in that little part under the vinyl top. I am afraid it is getting rusty under there again. I am not sure if it would be best to drain out all the fluids and gas, or keep it full. Aside from removing the battery I don't really know how to do this best. I am looking for tips or any horror stories. Thanks again!

Depending on where you store it, I would say Mouse proof it with either Dial soap or Bounce [dryer softener sheets] These little nasty (%%)&*&(* can ruin a car's interior and/or wiring.

As for the rust, Depending on how advanced the cancer is, I doubt there is anything that will slow it down much w/o some fairly radical work.[ Like POR]

Window pinch weld rust is very comon. IMHO There only two kinds of vinyl tops. Those that have rust under them and those that are going to have rust under them.

Please tell us the plans for future work and maybe we can put together a "storage Plan" that will work with your future restorations palns.
