Power Windows?

Worth it to do a power window conversion on a 70 CS? Original owner ordered this CS convertible without power windows. I don't get it.

Well I hope the consensus is that it is worth it, because I plan to do the same thing. Like you, I don't understand a convertible without power windows. Though my raggety top makes it so I have to be outside the car anyway to put it down. Eh, not forever.

My last car had a manual top and it was a giant PIA, especially here in Long Island where the weather changes often. I kept the boot on too which didn't help matters. It was a small car ( '69 Corvair) so I could easily get to all the window cranks from the drivers seat. That's just not possible in this beast. He ordered it with manual breaks and no AC too... I'm not sure why he wanted the Supreme, or why they even made it that way. Good luck with top/windows!

It is more common than you think. Mine has manual windows too. But got lucky with power disc brakes and A/C (doesn't work right now but all there). But they took the credit and got the 2bl carb. Just gives that much more to work on.

That was lucky. I added a power booster for the brakes but kept the drums, not sure if I want to invest in the discs, can't say I've had any issues. Been thinking about adding after market A/C but I changed the seats to cloth and gotta say it hasnt been too bad, even in 90 degrees, but this hasn't been a hot summer. I've also got the 2bl - I'm thinking power windows may top the list though. I drive several times a week all year long, unless there's rain or snow. You mentioned credits, now it's starting to make sense....

I had an option to pick up a set for the Cutlass but I passed. My friend was with me & tried to talk me into it. I opted for the cruise control instead. Figured I'd never match the blue interior to change over to the toggle switches. Now I kind of wish I did, so if you have the option my vote is yes.

I have one covert with power windows/lock and one with only power locks. The power windows in a convertible is nice. I won't go out of my way to install the set up but I suppose if I came across a cheap setup I'd buy it.

I just remember power windows as being a luxury item back in the day. My '68 has hardly power anything except steering and brakes. My '69 has nearly power everything - door locks are the only non-powered item.

Other items besides power door locks I recall as "luxury" back then - air conditioning, tilt column, bucket seats with a console, power antenna, power trunk release, power convertible top, disc brakes, cruise control, anything beyond AM radio with a front speaker only, and radial tires.

Randy, I also remember power windows as an add-on luxury item right through the 80s. I remember or late 60s early 70s Cadillacs having them but not mom's 72 Ventura. Matter of fact, dad's cars always had that option checked, mom's never did... Just seems to me though that if you're buying a luxury car like a Supreme with a power top, you'd go the extra mile for power windows. But I can't spend other people's money, as much as I would like to.

Wasn't power top standard by 1970 on a Cutlass? I've never seen a non power top on a 70 - 72.
