power steering only works one direction
the power steering on my 70 cutlass is only working when turning left, it doesn't work at all turning right. I had the pump off when replacing the engine and did bleed the system when I re-installed. The steering was working fine but has slowly started getting this issue. It didn't just all of a sudden happen, it has slowly started and now is gotten to this point. It doesn't matter if the car is moving or sitting still, it is the same. What could this be? I did some searching but all I saw was the possibility of air in the lines. I have no leaks and already blead it so I am thinking its something else but don't know what. The pump does not make any whining noises either. Any help would be appreciated, thank you

Wow. Never heard of that one, but I would agree that there may be debris in the valves.
If you were considering replacing the box, now's your time.
If you want to do some "experimenting," then take yours apart and see if you can find out what's wrong.

It would be the perfect time to convert to a quick ratio box. There are articles on here about using a Jeep Grand Cherokee box or you can send it to Chip at Power Steering Services, Inc. and he will rebuild it and convert it to quick ratio. Here is the link:

My guess is the threaded screw plug in the piston backed out and is now sitting in front of the piston stopping it from moving to one side. (Ask me how I know)
Before you blow out the front cover on the steering box by trying to force it (Ask me again how I know) You can remove the snap ring that holds the cover on and then take the cover off. More than likely at that point the threaded plug will drop out. It has a 1/2 inch square drive on the front. Just screw it back in and use a ratchet and extension to tighten it up. Put it back together and fill it up.
This is worth a try and will save you a buck or two
