...and here are some modern day pictures of the building that housed a well-known Olds dealership in San Francisco in the 60s and I believe it was in existance into the 80s. The address is:

Van Ness Oldsmobile
1700 Van Ness Avenue (corner of Van Ness and Sacramento)
San Francisco, CA 94109
dealer code: 23-871 (as of May 1969)

My '69 4-4-2 convertible came from there. The first owner was a relative of the owner of Van Ness Olds as I later found out. It now houses a "Staples" store on the ground level and the top floors are condos. The drive into the Van Ness Olds shop off of Sacramento is now a parking garage.

I visited the parts dept. of Crisconi Olds in Philadelphia, Pa. a number of times in the 1979-81 time frame. I got a lot of discontinued NOS parts from them.

No dealer code though.

This was circa 1966-1975ish

I believe around 1975 it moved to a location a few blocks away and became Bellevue Cadillac Oldsmobile.

There was a Brown-Allen Cadillac Olds dealership in Bryan/College Station Texas when I was in school there in the '60s. It was on the main drag, Texas Avenue.

Called Allen GM Kia in College Station to see if there was a connection. I talked with the son of the Allen that had owned the dealership. He said it closed years ago, his father has passed some time ago, and he was not aware of any records remaining of the dealership that would have the dealer code.

Sorry, wish I could have come up with more info,

This is off the key ring that came with the Silver Bullet ('68 Flat Top Wagon) when I bought it. Still there. No protect-o-plate. Don't have one for Big Red ('68 convertible). Will check and see if I can find anything on the CCRider later today.

Just found another one that came out of a '69 Cutlass that I found in the junkyard in South Carolina around 18 years ago. Here it is:

Clapp Motor Sales
301 W Court Ave
Jeffersonville Ind 47130
09-132
phone 283-6666

The P-O-P is dated 03-24-69.

The dealer codes can change from year to year, based on a number of different events (consolidations, new dealerships, etc.). It's not uncommon. That's why it's important to list the date that is associated with the dealer and their code.

"slowolds", Matson Olds Cadillac closed a couple of years ago, when they were sold to a local Chevy/multiple dealership owner, and merged at another location. The dealership building still stands (2 or 3 of them), with some of the space rented out for other enterprises. I bought three of my Olds (used) from them over the years.

I was thinking of going down there (about 5 minutes away) and taking a couple of phots to post here. I don't think that any of the signage is still there. Also giving some thought of checking with the Hackley Public Library to see if thet have any old photos.

https://picasaweb.google.com/6971dan...I6XpN2Bif3_mQE The first photos show the main dealership building and main entrance to what was the showroom. There is the sign that once had their name on it hanging above the entrance, it is now blank. Down the right side of this building was the service dept. I was in there many times over the years buying Olds parts. The fourth photo was to the right from where the pics were taken, and was the paint and body dept. next are a couple shots of the used car lot where I bought three Olds over the years (from Al Zhart, the nicest, no pressure saleman, $5 held my car until I came back with the bank loan). The sign here is what is left of the Nissan advertising, which was added in the 80's if memory serves me, (It may not!) In the background and in the last pic, was Engine Machine Service which did a lot of engine work in it's heyday, I believe that they closed in the late '70's. It was also a dealership long before I started driving, I think a Chrysler dealer. I have always liked the architecture of that building, think it would make a neat car museum...in another location as this area is getting bad. I emailed the Library, which is about 3 blocks away, but have not heard back. I may give them a call Thursday, to see if they have anything, or can point me in the right direction for pics of thre dealership in it's thriving era.
