Do we really have to do this AGAIN????
Look, Oldsmobile had multiple special order RPO codes for special paint. This is well documented. This is the process that was used to get cars painted Yellow Cab orange and Mary Kay pink. See RPO Y62, Y66, and Y76 below. These special order colors could be ANY color, not just the four not-so-special order colors for 1970. The problem is that the cowl tag will only say "- -", so unless there is solid documentation like a build sheet or original order form, there's now way to prove what the original color was. The purple car in question has pre-restoration photos that show original purple paint in unmolested areas inside, under upholstery.

There are a couple of threads going that posit the theory that the factory would mix any color paint you wanted as long as you selected the right "special paint" RPO code.

The car would have been painted in a GM matching Lacquer.
MOPARs were painted in Enamel
As Joe pointed out, this absolutely could be done with the correct paper work,
and there is plenty of evidence to suggest this car came originally in a Lacquer Plum Crazy matching hue

I sold GMC trucks inthe early 80's . They had a book of special orrder colors, There was 2 pages of orange. A customer picked one, I ordered, it it came, in. Off he went happy. Dont remember the cost, but it was not significant. Most trucks I ordered took 3 to 5 weeks to come in. The orange truck took 2 months

I absolutely believe it. Does anyone here know about all the different color Rally 350's that Oldsmobile put out to test the market? There was supposedly a purple one in the mix. I have heard there was orange and green also. I think that Oldsmobile was going with The Judge schemes but they cheaped out. They chose the Rally 350 because they didn't want to team up with Hurst again. Hello this was the sixties and seventies. Color was everywhere.
