Please help with some crank advice

Good morning,
I have a 71 455 block i just picked up(standard bore but some rust in the cylinders) My old block and crank are toast about and im about to send the new block to the machine shop and need some advice on the crank.i had a Nodular crank in my old block that ended up getting destroyed and i was just cruising on the highway at about 2800 rpms. My question is are the eagle cast steel cranks better (stronger) than the Nodular? I know it would need to be checked and machined if out of spec. I am having a hard time finding a Nodular here in southeast michigan so eagle may be my only choice. I also have a buddy who just moved here from florida and he has a 69 toro motor (mild cam)with less than a hundred miles on it that i can have. The problem is that it has been sitting in a crate at a boat yard in Ft Lauderdale for 10 years so i have no idea what condition its in. I do have some family there so i might just go for a visit and grab it.

Just about every factory 455 crank is nodular (except for the rare 1968 forged cranks).

Joe do you know if the eagle crank is as good or better than the Nodular? The block i bought came with a crank but when i looked up the numbers it seems to be the least desired cast crank

The Eagle crank is cast, just like the original Olds cranks. Its only advantage(if it fits correctly) is that its not 50 years old

I have 2 N cranks. Im about 30 miles north of you. Both would need machining, theyve been sitting for 30+ years. If youre interested, PM me. $100 each

thanks for responding and i am interested in the N crank. How bad are they? Scoring, worn excessively? etc

Both are currently std/std. No spun bearings, but crusty from sitting. I would think either would clean up at .010 under

Sorry, gotta retract my offer. Just took a look at them and they look very crusty/rusty. Apparently theyve been sitting under all the winter boots getting wet. Not sure what it would take to clean up. Sorry.

Those cranks look good! The fles\x plate looks a little ruff. A good sand blasting and i bet they would be good.
A good crank shop should be able the clean a polish. A 10/10 machining would be a good choice.
