I just recently installed my dual cut out rear bumper (1971).
I have a 2.5" dual exhaust in place already but dosen't line up with the cut outs.
I'm going to use Pypes 2.5" trumpets.
I have the tailpipe hangers for cut out bumper cars for the shop to use.
I'll have the muffler shop fab up some new tail pipes if they can't adjust these tail pipes to work.

I need a couple good pics of correctly placed trumpet tips to show the shop so they know exactly where they should be placed.

I think the assembly manual shows the measurment? What I do is put them and look at them. About 1/2 inch between bumper. You can all most tell what is right. To far out looks totaly wrong, and you don't what them touching your bumper.

I've searched the chassis service,body service and assembly manuals and am unable to find any type of measurments for ehaust tip to bumper spacing.

Now that the exhaust is directed out the back of the car instead of slightly underneath,the flowmaster 40 series have been toned down slightly. More to my liking.

Those look real nice!! The Prettiest Ones exhaust pipe does not come out from under the car, and sometimes I get a lot of fumes inside the car when she has to idle. My nephew said I could get one of those "end pieces" and put on the pipe to extend it out the back some. I think I've seen these on single exhaust cars at shows before... would this be ok to do? Though I'm sure it wouldn't be "correct"!!

If it were my car I would make some changes to avoid breathing those fumes.
A couple options include a chrome exhaust tip as you mention,and they come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes.
Or if you want a correct look,you can have a muffler shop bend and install a new tailpipe that is longer than your exsisting pipe.Just make sure the muffler tech knows exactly what the problem is and what you want.

Cutlass gal- you can get 2, 3 or 4" extensions at the auto parts store so your exhaust will clear the bumper...hot exhaust rising up the inside of the bumper will melt your tail light lenses...

Very nice, gives it that "finished look".

 

Some that are out too far can look like they aren't quite right. I thought ran across some measurements on those somewhere, but I can't remember forsure. The trumpet angle is very close to the bumper angle, they're almost parallel. Mine seem to maintain a 1.75" distance. Yours look to be closer to 1.25. I wouldn't know who is closer to the factory specs. They look good either way.

Trumpets give that "little extra" kick
I like them, they dont stick out to much, i would say perfect!!!

They are as close to "correct" as they can be.(I'm betting that no-one is
going to come up to you and say "by the way, did you know your exhaust trumpets are sticking out 3/32 of an inch more than they should."

I got my cutout bumper installed and am about ready to get my trumpet tips and super turbo mufflers installed. I was wondering if you put a crossover (H-pipe or X pipe) on your exhaust system?

Here's mine I bought the tips and had them welded on the tail pipes. Where is the telltale black carbon from that rich runnin 455 Dream'in? I wish I could keep mine that clean, must be the blueprinted W-30 cam or the aftermarket holley and intake but mine het black instantly after firing. Let me know your secret. Oldsdroptop

Say, how far out do your exhaust tips extend from the bumper? Do you have the pipe hugging the bumper or is it down quite a bit?

I am trying to get a frame of reference before I get them installed.

D1, no crossover,just straight duals with 40 series flowmasters.Had to have the shop fab some new tailpipes when I converted to the cut out bumper.

Oldsdroptop, no 455 yet,it's in the works though.It's still the original 1971 350 long block in my gold car.
Even with the stock 350 I still get plenty on black carbon that needs cleaned off on a very regular basis.
Thank goodness for Mothers chrome polish!
Some people have mentioned I would also find that my taillights would start melting. I've had the car for some 5 hour drives in hot weather and haven't found that to be an issue, yet?

 

442"s have a metal shield bolted to the tailight assemblies to keep the tailights cooler when running the cutout bumper.
