Part # look up for my GMC vehicles

I am wondering if there is a place that I can look up my vehicle vin for the correct part. Wanting to order from rock auto but there are different parts. Was told to go to GMC dealer to get the part number. Is there a place that I can look it up and then order?
Thanks in advance

Bill, that site is EXTREMELY helpful, especially with the exploded view diagrams. Very easy to use drill down menu and parts refinement. It already helped me find some parts for my wife's car that I've been wondering about and didn't know the proper descriptors for. Thanks for posting that!

Thanks for the information guys. That helped. It makes it easier to order the right part from rock auto.
