Pal/Speed nuts or Barrel nuts for emblems on 68 442

I see them called PAL nuts or Speed nuts, or would Barrel nuts be a better choice for the 442 on fenders and deck lid? I kind of like the idea (had them on an old mustang) of the barrel nuts as it was easy to remove emblems and detail these areas...Opinions?

Bad thing about the barrel nuts is they can chip the paint, causing rust!
Someone used to make 'speed nuts' with rubber washers, but haven't seen those in 30 years! They would seal the hole, from the back.
Detail with Q-tips!

You can't get to the fender emblems once the fender is on the car so barrel nuts won't help much. If you spin the deck lid nuts off the rear trunk trim more than about twice you'll break the studs off. (those came with barrel nuts from the factory anyway)

I just found a bunch of them when I was putting my car back together. I'm pretty sure they were used in specific places but I didn't take the car apart so I couldn't tell you where that was.

I did find some Pal/Speed nuts with sealer, I like that plan better. You are right about the Barrel nuts...the did chip up the paint on my mustang.

Just as an FYI, the speed nuts used for emblems were a little different than this one. This particular nut is used with a threaded stud like a T-Bolt that is used to attach the front fender moldings. This style nut will not cut threads on it's own like the nut used for the emblems. The way to tell is this style only has one notch in it so its made to work on a threaded stud. The style that will cut threads will have 2 notches and they will be a little larger notch than you see here.

Thanks for the info on my nuts. Two cuts and not one. Do ya think it might be a good idea to put some sealer in the nuts like 3-M rope caulk? nahh, not like it will be soaking anywhere I hope. Awesome link Trip Duece! Thanks everyone.
