Paint Stripper New Formula Sucks!
Paint Stripper New Formula Sucks!
So from time to time I use paint stripper during a restoration, Zip Strip seems to work well. I had a bit left in the metal can and it worked like a charm. When I went to a local Hardware store I saw the Zip Strip in plastic bottles, new formula it seems but label says works fast. I bought the bottle and returned to the job, laid out a nice coating and waited, waited, WAITED with not even a hint that the paint was lifting. I also have some experience with the Citrus formula...its a joke. My last resort will be the Aircraft stripper sold at the chain stores. Hope they don't mess with that!
I have had good results with Aircraft Remover, when in doubt look to see if it contains methionine chloride that is the active ingredients that makes it work, most of the other ingredients slow the dry time down, so it has time to work..... Tedd
It has been lots of years since I used aircraft stripper but in some cases it was the only thing that would work. It is nasty stuff and you needed gloves and good ventilation. I am glad those days are over.
As of November 2019, methylene chloride is illegal to sell for retail use, unfortunately. I've found that Aircraft Stripper still does a good job despite replacing the MC with other chemicals.
