OverHaulin......WTF.......?
I can't wait to get home and watch the night before episodes of Overhaulin & when i seen they were doing a 1972 Cutlass Supreme convertible the day couldn't pass by fast enough. When I got home and turned to it, everything was fine, they snatched a perfectly good Cutlass that the family has owned since new and kept it in great condition. Now Chip Foose has always impressed me with his cars and I knew he wouldn't let me down on my favorite car. The first thing he does is put a chevy 350 in it then he goes on to pick the colors he wants instead of what the wife wanted. She started out solid color, Chip wanted 2 tone as usual - they just dont do those body lines any justice to me - my opinion. Then he changes the color, again he's making an executive decision. The final thing was he put 350 badges on the car as if it was the baddest motor to be put in an Oldsmobile and they wonder why they had to rewire it. Chip Foose ...... WTF........!

LOL....should have been an LS motor.....cheap bastards.
I think it's in dire need of an OAI forced induction hood personally.
Same Foose Legend rims I put on my 442 tribute......WOOT!!!!
I will HAPPILY give them my 1970 for that badass 1972 Foose Convertible.
It's EASILY worth 10x it's prior value now.

Seriously, is that show still on? It was entertaining for a while, but the formula was quickly revealed, and became lame after that.
Same as American Chopper. Some TV exec needs to just put the bullet in that horse.
I actually liked to watch pimp my ride for the pure absurdity of it...
"yo- we know how much you love to play pool- so we put a pool table in your CAR!"
"yo- we know how much you like to work on your car- so we put a 32" tv screen under the floor so you can watch while you wrench!"
I really liked the one where they took a ford escort and put a BMW m3 front clip on it. So lame it was hilarious.

I don't think they've filmed new episodes of Overhaulin' in years. I remember them doing the convertible & thought it came out lame.
IMO American Chopper had a comeback this season with paul Jr setting up his own shop.

To let this ego maniac loose on a decent car is a crime seen him take a one owner gto that if restored would have been worth 60k but after his modification you would be lucky to get 20k for it. Have seen him ruin nice cars but i guess it makes the ones properly restored worth more haha.

Chip is human & can be questioned by anyone! Thats peoples problem they put others on pedestals like they can't be touched!
I agree they could have at least put in a LS7 or LS9, they always put the other brands get their own motors. Poniac's get Butler built 455 w/ Bowler th400, most of the cars would be worth more with the stock motor & trans. They probably keep the orignals for their own cars & give everyone else them cheap 4 bolt main chevy motors. I do like the powder coated frames, dynamatted interior & stipped down to get rid of the rust. The Best OverHauled car I have is from Schwartzperformance.com the only thing I would change is the rims, back to ralleys with 295's.

AGREED!!!!
That guy blew some SERIOUS coin building that car. I'm thinking close
to $100,000 easy. I don't care for Gold myself, but that car is totally badass.
The shop is near me, and the owner is as well. I still haven't seen it in person.

Those forgelines are not cheap, but they don't look right on the car.

I emailed Schwartzperformance on a price list for their frames and LS7 455 stroker and was shocked when they came back with 35k. The frame with full suspension - (coil over or airbags), brakes, steering & rear end was 14k so right there you got 50k. That front runner system is 2k and when I priced the forgeline rims i almost passes out 5k for rims only not to mention how exspensive 19 inch tires are.
As for Chip Foose maybe he could have some 18 SS1's & SS2's made up, he did make some 18's or 20's for a 68 442.

In my opinion the show was developed as an inexpensive platform in which to base a one hour info commercial and keep our attentions at the same time. Almost all of the programing designed to entertain our crowd (car enthusiast) is nothing more than long commercials with groups of smaller commercials added every six to seven minutes. I sometimes feel foolish for even watching them as they talk about their sponsors products as they put them on their project vehicles. And to add insult to injury I have to sit through six minutes of commercials every six minutes. And almost every other project involves a SBC. It seems to me that 350 SBC motors are the cheapest to install, as well as the easiest to find parts for. Thats why everyone buys a so called "350ci CRATE MOTOR" for their budget builds. I was also let down on the shows plot lines, the infamous "stolen car" theme.
It always seemed that maybe the cars were chosen due to the age old friend of a friend scenario and/or location. I did, and still do enjoy the show but not nearly as much as I enjoy some of the others being produced these days, such as "Fast and Loud" and "Road Kill".

My son was dyinbg to put an application in for my car for the new episodes. I let him. I told him if they pick it make sure it comes back with an Olds engine, either 425 or 455, a stock restored interior & if they do any body mods to my hood I will kill them.
To the above comment taht said the '72 needed an OAI hood, if one of their sponsors sold one it would have had it.

If only I had the money, the tools, the connections....hell....the garage......here's an idea.....have the owner on the build team. Free slave labor. My Oldsmobile will be different. I'm rebuilding the original engine and trans and putting them back in the car. This is NOT negotiable...... if you want it how you want it you have to do it yourself. If you don't know how, you gotta learn. At the end of the day I'd rather proudly say I built it myself than.....yeah....Chip built it.

Perhaps in earlier shows they did pay some attention to what was in the car? I did see where a numbers matching motor was sent out and rebuilt etc, and I did watch them do this buick gs, that was an absolute bondo mobile, it also came back with a buick 455.
No doubt about it chip is a craftsman, but he is a rodder not a restorer, I can not fathom a car being stripped and painted and in the span of a week? even with all the folks working on it, A show I prefer is graveyard carz on discovery ( so what I like mopars too) these guys build like I think 80% of you guys do, all numbery and matching LOL....
but these shows are not how to's because that would simply take too damn long and it would be boring seriously it would be. they give you the ideas on what can be done, the best place to see restorations is well right here LOL.
chasing classic cars is also becoming a bit of a joke, I watch the show but really these cars are so far beyond the real life collectors, so is desert valley too cheapy, and whoever those texas hillbillies are LOL... no offense, just talking the show. legendary is having a show come out as well, but again serious monies, and now they are more into flips...
I suggest we Get Brian, or Richard, or a one of the other high end builders here to document a restoration over a year, and we edit it into say 52 or 104 episodes, from start to finish, and get a hold of one of the networks I am sure they would buy the two years worth of programming? they can even get some slinky spokesmodel to intrioduce the segments or get Linda V herself? hmmmmmmmm through in some historical segways about the smother brothers and other great teams , olds baja racing, etc etc etc and then have the car at the pure stock drags or mecum auction or something...
ok back to reality.
I personally also like wheeler dealers much more realistic....

My Brother and I are always at odds on how best to restore a car. He is quite a bit younger than me and into buying all the new, upgraded suspension systems for his middle to late sixties muscle cars. And believe me, I think the stuff is nice, but there is something about the factory boxed in trailing arms on my car that really excites me. I can't see replacing them with some new, off the shelf parts even if the new technology is better (and far better at that). My car is a part of automotive history (although, not of any important significance other than being a 442), I am working on something from an earlier time. I figure, if I wanted a modern driving car I might as well just buy a newer model Covette. The C-4s and C-5s are extremely affordable these days.
I admit, my wife's Bimmer drives much better than my 442, but again, if I wanted the ride of an M series BMW, I could have bought a really nice used one for less than I paid for the 1970 442 I am tinkering with now.
I like the late sixties/early seventies muscle cars for their ride and the coolness factor. Plus I like being able to work on the car in my garage with simple hand tools. And I don't need twenty cool features on a car today, that will surely give me issues three or four years from now. Example, the wife's Bimmer has plenty of issues, and each one cost me dearly to fix. Even when I do the repairs myself. And there is always a check engine light or check gas cap light coming on. God, I hate new cars.
Anyway, just one mans opinion. Thank you for allowing me to express it here. No offense intended for the owners of new cars. My daily driver is a newer car.

I will jump in and say Foose is an artist and should just do canvas and leave autos alone. Havent seen one yet that I liked that he molested. The rest of the shows follow suite with the end results a big let down. The Gas Monkey show and Pawn Star spin off Counting Cars are more of the same with the latter being a cut above. Just my opinion.

I don't mind the way that car looks. At least he left the door handles. I hate when he takes away the door handles and installs those electric door openers. The chrome door handles are a part of the beauty of those cars.
