Original or Not

How much more value on average does an Olds,69 442 conv, have with an original engine it. I have seen crate engines with much more HP for less to rebuild the one I have in the car. I have had people say pull out the old engine and just store it. I just wanted to get a few professional opinions here. Thanks Larry

I think you can professionaly rebuild the original engine for less than or about the same amount it would cost you to buy a crate motor. You might not get as much horsepower, but you would also have to spend money modifying the car to put in a Chevy or Ford crate motor. Not to mention it would be BLASPHEMOUS!

When I had my 68 s. I pulled the moter and trans out because I wanted more get up. I found a rebuilt moter I could trade for. I kept the old moter and it went when I sold the car. The 68 was nothing special no options and 350 2bl. I now have a 71 convertible with an orginal 350 2bl. I not going to change it. When time comes it will be rebuilt the same way it is now.

With the help of a local good machine shop you will have a better engine then a crate motor has been my experience. Crate motors are built on a assembly line and you get whatever came off the line. If It was built on a Friday afternoon when the line men were anxious to go home you get whatever they built. I have seen them Grenade on the first pass. Go for the known rebuild. I feel the same way about the trans.
