Original Driven gear
Original Driven gear
Can anyone tell me what the original driven gear in the transmission was for a 1969 442 4 speed with 3:23 rear gears. I fully understand that tire size will increase/decrease speed o reading. I currently have 225/R70-14 tires on stock rims.
I have purchased a 6 piece set of driven gears(17 thru 22) and would like to install the correct gear the 1st time to get the most accurate speed o reading.
Thanks in advance for all comments

According to this calculator with those tires and rear gears

you need 15 drive gear and a 37 driven for your speedometer to be accurate.

In the 1970 Chassis Service Manual on page 4B-23, they list the 19-tooth natural for H-78 series tires, 20-tooth blue for F-78, 17-tooth purple with a .866 adapter for G-78, 20-tooth blue with no adapter for G-70. Maybe with a little digging you can come up with the circumference of each of the different series tires and match the closest to your 225/70's.
Thanks for the replies. I don’t know how the speed o gears of a TH400 and a Muncie M20 would match up but I appreciate your reply. I’ll start out with the 19 tooth gear with the 8 tooth drive gear and go from there
From the 1970 chart, but it should be correct for 69. Just make sure you have the correct drive gear in the transmission, or all of this is out the window.
