original cb in a 77 cutlass?

so i was hooking up a new stereo in my 1977 cutlass supreme the other day and when i was looking for a power source off of the fuse box, i saw a label that said cb by one of the fuses, also there is a holder for a cb mike on my dash, which i thought originally that somebody added it ,but now im just curious if these cars came out with a cb as a option ?

You could get either a stand-alone GM CB unit thru the dealer or a factory-installed Delco integral CB unit made into the AM-FM-stereo radio and using the same antenna. They worked fine until they got some age on them, then they usually tended to go squirrelly, and truck stop CB shops couldn't fix them like they could a Cobra or Midland.

they were far more common in the 70s. before the day of cell phones. if i travel i prefer to have one on. if you get in a traffic jamb on the interstate they will give you info that you can't get any other way.

It was CB mania in the mid 70's and everybody wanted to be a trucker, went hand in hand. Everybody had a CB and there were no problems driving because only one person can talk at a time which is totally different...over. Plus you were sharing the same channels with millions of other people so you couldn't talk for long before somebody would break in and tell you to stop hogging the airwaves.

Ever see Smokey and the Bandit or hear the song Convoy?

My 80 Delta 88 Holiday Coupe has one from the factory. Never had any trouble with it.

My 71 98 has a CB antenna in the trunk. It also has the CB cable running under the carpet to just under the dash. I don't see any mounting brackets though. I guess one of the previous owners was a CB guru.

Yup. Factory optional in the late 70s and early 80s.

Well we got a mighty convoy, rockin' through the night...

It pains me to admit that I still have the 45 of that song someplace in the barn. And if you don't know what a 45 is, you're too young.

I still have the movie "Convoy" on VHS that I recorded from TV in the mid 80's... The song is a bit different for radio than it was in the movie (different endings). It was a way cool flick IMHO... "10:4 Pigpen, for sure, for sure by golly"...

Looks like I need to watch that this weekend and back it up to wmv...
