opinions of potential 455 purchase
https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/p...198666148.html
I am considering taking a look at purchasing this motor for my 72 Supreme currently with rebuilt 350 A/C car. My Trans is turbo 350 rebuilt with Redline Clutches and Hughes 2000 stall. I have not been there in person, it's about 150 mile trip. It looks to be a decent deal, but would like opinions. I do currently have a 455 block with C heads from a 68 Delta 88 ready for the machine shop (no intake, carb, distributor). Go ahead with my current plan or jump on the craigslist one?

Any engine you can't hear run is to be treated as a core. Not all 70 455s were equal, so you're really just buying the block, crank, and heads (by which I mean the pistons and cam are unverifiable in terms of whether they were 442 or were dog 98.)

x2 on Koda's piont of view.
I would recommend you build your own.
That is a lot of money for a used 455 with a re- pop intake.
From what others have said the re-pop intake does not flows as well as the factory intake.
Before you build your engine educate yourself on what is required to make your 455 perform and live at your HP/TQ goal level.
Research your machine shop, this is were a lot of engine failures occur.
Have a detailed build plan before you start.

All ofthe above is true.
but its complete w pulleys and carb, hei and brackets plus intake.
a jobber rebuild will run 4 k ish w nothing other than standard off the shelf parts then you still need the dizzy n intake plus pulleys brackets etc.
if you can get it for 1500 id say it would be worth the gamble, a 90k engine is no spring chicken but if your after a driver it would work.
if your wanting a complete ready to roll rebuilt to your specs engine save the $
id call the guy and talk to him a while feel him out what did it come out of if it was his moms car that she bought newand was dealer serviced by the book great, if it wasa JY find eh not so great.

Those repop[ manifolds are known to not fit correctly. At 90k miles, that motor needs a comeplete rebuild to be reliable. You small block brackets and pulleys, distributor will all transfer to your current 455

The small block Oldsmobile is a great platform. I think its the best engine in the Oldsmobile stable.
Responds well to performance bolt on parts.
There are many examples of nice 350 builds.
What are your goals?

I agree on the Olds 350, their most reliable motor. If you do build the 455, make dam sure they do competent machine work with enough clearance. The big heavy parts, large diameter rods and mains are less forgiving than the 350.
